Abstract General Information
Título / Title
BILATERAL RETROBULBAR NEURITIS AFTER COVID 19. CASE REPORT
Introdução / Purpose
the ethiology of retro-bulbar neuritis, in most cases it is idiopathic, but it can also be associated with other inflammatory and/or demyelinating diseases, among which the main ones are viral infections.
Material e Método / Methods
A 23-year-old woman was referred visual acuidy of counter fingers in both eyes after Covid-19 and retro-orbital pain. The treatment with Pulse Therapy with 1g of Methylprednisolone was prescribed, once a day, intravenously, for 3 consecutive days.
Resultados / Results
Total remission of visual acuity in both eyes without damage of visual field.
Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion
Although the epidemiological and clinical information obtained through anamnesis and physical examination are suggestive of the diagnosis of optic or retrobulbar neuritis, some complementary tests are important for a better characterization of the disease, assessment of the prognosis and, mainly, for the differential diagnosis. In this case, MRI showed T2/FLAIR hypersignal in the orbital segment of the optic nerve in both eyes, associated with mild enhancement, more evident on the right, with a slight change in enhancement in the perineural fat. These findings are suggestive of optic neuritis, thus corroborating the proposed diagnostic hypothesis.
