Abstract General Information

Título / Title

Cavernous hemangioma associated with lipid exudation

Introdução / Purpose

The purpose of the present study is to present a rare clinical case of cavernous retinal hemangioma that evolved with lipid exudation in a 49-year-old white male patient, who presented with low visual acuity in the left eye.

Material e Método / Methods

Detailed description of the clinical case

Resultados / Results

Examination of retinal mapping of the left eye showed hard exudates in the macular region, superior and inferior temporal arcade up to the temporal periphery and hemorrhagic saccular lesions in the inferior temporal arcade, fluorescein angiography of the left eye with initial hypofluorescence within the tumor mass and hyperfluorescence due to accumulation in the left eye more intense late onset in the upper part of the aneurysm. Optical coherence tomography detected hyporeflectivity in the outer nuclear layer secondary to intraretinal cysts and hyperreflective spots in the outer plexiform layer associated with neurosensory retinal thickening in the left eye.

Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion

Although the patient in question started with low visual acuity, most patients with cavernous hemangioma are asymptomatic and 50% of cases are diagnosed through a routine examination. The presence of retinal exudation associated with this tumor is very rare.
