Abstract General Information

Título / Title

SHORT-PULSE LASER PLUS SUBTHRESHOLD DIFFUSE LASER FOR SEROUS RETINAL DETACHMENT IN DOME-SHAPED MACULA

Introdução / Purpose

To evaluate the anatomical and functional effects of short pulse duration laser plus subthreshold diffuse laser in patients with dome-shaped macula (DSM) and serous retinal detachment.

Material e Método / Methods

In a consecutive retrospective study, eight eyes from seven patients were examined. Eyes with serous retinal detachment resultant to dome-shaped macula were evaluated by multimodal retinal imaging. Anatomical and visual function were analyzed before and after laser therapy through central subfoveal thickness (CST) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) measurements, respectively.

Resultados / Results

Eight eyes from seven patients were included in the study. At baseline, mean CST (µm) ± SE and mean BCVA (LogMAR) ± SE were 412.50 ± 24.65 and 0.6125 ± 0.14 respectively. The total mean follow-up time after laser therapy was 12.92 ± 1.34 months. Serous retinal detachment (SRD) mean time (months) resolution was 3.75 ± 1.08. After combined laser treatment, the mean CST (µm) ± SE and BCVA (LogMAR) ± SE were 294.75 ± 19.68 and 0.4537 ± 0.12 respectively. A statistically significant reduction on CST and improvement on BCVA was noted after laser therapy (p< 0,05). The mean CST (µm) ± SE and mean BCVA (LogMAR) ± SE change from baseline after laser therapy was 117.75 ± 22.7 and 0.159 ± 0.046, respectively (p= 0.0078 and p= 0.0313, respectively; Wilcoxon Signed Rank). No adverse event was registered, including enlargement of atrophic alterations and choroidal neovascularization.

Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion

The novel combined laser modality with short pulse duration plus subthreshold diffuse laser treatment may induce subretinal fluid regression and BCVA improvement 1 year after treatment.
