SCLERAL DEPRESSION TECHNIQUES DURING VITRECTOMY: A SIMPLE BUT NOVEL APPROACH
Introdução / Purpose
To describe a novel technique for peripheral indententation during vitrectomy surgery
Material e Método / Methods
Scleral indentation is an important step during vitrectomy. It enables a more complete shave of the vitreous base and careful search of any peripheral retinal breaks. There are a various techniques of scleral indentation and vitreous base shaving; we describe a novel technique using a angled Liebermann Speculum
In our technique, the IOP is reduced to 5-10 mmHg and the assistant uses the angled Lieberman speculum to indent the peripheral sclera by pressing the temporal stock of the Speculum downwards and inwards.
The indentation is done by 2 steps: inferiorly and superiorly. In each step we are able to achieve an indentation of approximately 140°
Resultados / Results
The indentation is done by 2 steps: inferiorly and superiorly. In each step we are able to achieve an indentation of approximately 140°
Discussão e Conclusões / Conclusion
We conclude that this speculum assisted indentation approach is a simple, novel and largely effective technique.
